  14.     when using dvips to process a dvifile the TeX table of contents
  15.     usuall appears at the end numbered -1,-2, ... Why? How can I
  16.     remedy this without clumsily setting the options -p and -l on
  17.     the command line of dvips?

  19.     This is awkward if the the total number of positively numbered
  20.     pages (according to the dvips message) is *odd* and the desire
  21.     is to print out duplex. It would seem that to extract the
  22.     pages -1,..., -m, say, one could say
  23.  
  24.     dvips -Pwhatever -p=(number of positive pages+2) file -o file.ps
